[visit-users] Visit + Wireless 3D Mouse

Ok, well, given the description of what you plan to do, I think it should work fine.

VisIt won't know nor care whether the mouse is wifi or not and whether its a 3D mouse of not.

If by making gestures with this device you can create the same mouse events that a 'normal' mouse would produce (x/y moves, x/y drags with a button down, clicks, etc.) then you should be fine using it that way though the actual gestures you wind up having to make to affect those inputs are of course determined by the way the device is configured and may or may not be that intuitive.

Hope that helps.

Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for the quick reply. We basically want to use it at our visualization theater as a substitute of a regular mouse, so people can walk around the theater and manipulate visit’s camera as a regular mouse does. Ideally, yes, exploiting all 3D mouse capabilities would be nice as well.

Martin.

If your question is whether we have customized VisIt to accept the 3D inputs this kind of device is capable of producing, the short answer is that we've looked at stuff like this (for example, the leap motion sensor hxxp://www.amazon.com/Leap-Motion-Controller-Gesture-Control/dp/B00E3CP9UM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437581271&sr=8-1&keywords=leap+motion+sensor) but I don't think any released versions of VisIt has such capabilities available yet.

Can you possibly elaborate on the use case you have in mind?

Mark

Dear Visit fans: good day. Any of you know whether visit works with this mouse tech? Thank you.
