Oh, and another option of course is maybe to try a different browser (maybe Firefox?) or directly obtaining using wget or curl

wget http://portal.nersc.gov/project/visit/releases/2.9.1/VisIt-2.9.1.dmg

or on os x

curl http://portal.nersc.gov/project/visit/releases/2.9.1/VisIt-2.9.1.dmg > VisIt-2.9.1.dmg

Hmm. When I click on VisIt-2.9.1.dmg from Chrome, it initiates the download and then downloads fine.

In your case, your browser appears to be trying to actually 'render' the downloaded file.

Have you run into this before? Are you using a different browser than you ever have in the past to download? Do you know if there is some setting that Chrome has to tell it to render or not render certain kinds of files? Here is info on Chrome version I am using. . .

Mac OS X 10.8.5
Version 42.0.2311.152 (64-bit)

I tried to click on several, including 2.9.1 and am getting what is
shown on the attached screenshot.

Thank you,
Sveta
